Table manners for your kids to master

Feeding time has been a great challenging event for most parents. Toddlers can be picky eaters, they sometimes want the same food over and over again and afraid to taste new dishes. Children are stubborn if do not want to eat they don’t eat, parents wish there were some kind of magic that whatever food that is placed on their plate they will automatically like it and eat it. But that’s how it goes, usually not or most of the time it goes right the opposite of that.

Consult other parents, pediatricians or your child’s caregiver at the nursery for what is best to do with kid’s who does not eat well at home or outside your home. What you must realize is that it is normal for kids to lose their appetite when they are in the learning development. When toddler is very active and plays a lot they find eating time is boring, and disturbance to their playtime.

So to make it less stressful for you and your child and avoid arguments when it is feeding time, make it a fun and enjoyable event instead. Start by preparing your child’s food in shapes and colors, he or she will be curious to take a look and taste this funny looking sandwich. But do not confuse your child that meal time is playtime. Teach your toddler at early age that when it’s meal time you sit around the table with your family or playmates; prepare a spot for your child in your dining table or have a corner for your child where you place a baby chair and a baby table there for her or him to enjoy his meal.

Place first small portions of meals in your toddler’s plate; make the setting fun and inviting. Buy plates according to his or her favorite cartoon character have spoons and fork in funny designs and cups as well. You can also make you toddler pick her own utensils so she will be proud of having her own plate and eating utensils. This will also give the idea that eating is a necessary routine of the day and will slowly enjoy mealtime.

Do not have large expectations for your toddler to eat healthy food. Instead encourage your toddler, take her with you when you are going to the grocery store, kids love to help in the kitchen try making meal time a enjoyable event by letting your toddler help prepare her food.
